MARIO + RABBIDS SPARKS OF HOPE Switch XCI Also featured are enemy encounters outside of turn-based combat. This new combat has been compared to that of games such as Divinity: Original Sin. Unlike the first game, level designs are less linear, and the turn-based tactical combat features a new system that disregards the first game’s grid-based layout. Players are also tasked with rescuing the Sparks throughout the galaxy, who provide distinct powers that will help the player in battle. Players are able to build out their roster of characters from, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Mario, along with new characters Edge, Rabbid Rosalina, and Bowser (with the Rabbids being fully voiced for the first time). In Sparks of Hope is largely similar to that of Kingdom Battle. Despite this homage to one of the best Mario games, Sparks of Hope doesn’t feel quite as Mario-flavored as the previous game. with praise towards the game’s graphics, soundtrack, gameplay, and improvements to the battle system, though the loading times received some criticism.

The new story sends Mario, Luigi, and Peach (alongside their Rabbid counterparts) into space to deal with an intergalactic threat called Cursa who’s spreading harmful “Darkmess” puddles across peaceful planets. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was all about Rabbids invading Mario’s world, but Sparks of Hope opens with Rabbids already chilling inside the Mushroom Kingdom like it’s no big deal. After a gameplay showcase that featured Mario and the gang fighting a Wiggler that has attached itself to a train, Davide Soliani revealed that three DLC packs are currently planned for the game and its season pass. Ubisoft is currently holding its first Ubisoft Forward presentation of the year and one of the first games that it showed off was Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
